The Medicare Quality Payment Program (aka MACRA) 201:  Know the Details and How to Help Your Members

Shari M. Erickson, MPH, Vice President, Governmental and Medical Practice, American College of Physicians (ACP)

The new Medicare Quality Payment Program (QPP), established by the MACRA law, is intended to streamline the Medicare reporting programs, incentivize movement toward value-based payment, and ideally improve patient care.  However, sea changes like this in a program as big as Medicare can be very complicated to implement, understand, and explain.  Further, many of our members may not even be aware of these changes—and if they are, they can feel overwhelmed and uncertain of what to do to be successful.  This deep dive into MACRA/QPP is intended to outline the details of this complex program with an aim of helping the participants be able to effectively educate and provide assistance to their own members.

Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the Medicare Quality Payment Program (QPP) on a more detailed level

  • Effectively educate and communicate with your members about the QPP

  • Identify useful and practical tools for your members to use in order to facilitate their success in the QPP

John Trybus, Managing Director & Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University’s Center for Social Impact Communication

Each of our society's must influence target audiences to spark action. This hands-on, participatory workshop will build on the keynote presentation to help you and your team create purposeful stories while also strengthening a culture of storytelling within your society. Get ready to rethink how storytelling drives influence and change, and learn the tools for how to do just that.

Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:

  • Dive deep into the five essential building blocks for effective organizational stories and the crucial difference between content and stories as part of your society's strategy.

  •  Practice story creation for your society through exercises that will define the purpose of your organization's story and how to find interesting characters.

  • Analyze and reflect on the level to which your society has an organizational culture of storytelling and how to improve upon it
