• Communications: submissions can include newsletters, bulletins, magazines and other communications initiatives that deliver an important message through effective promotional content, writing, format, graphic design and creativity.
  
  
• Education: submissions can include program development, education curricula and/or special techniques to enhance professional development.
  
  
• Membership: submissions can include successful membership development or membership retention programs or campaigns.
  
  
• NEW! President's Award (Health & Wellness Promotion): submissions can include workplace or community health and wellness campaigns or programs that have improved participants' health while increasing awareness of important health issues.

Introducing a new submission category for the 2012 Profiles of Excellence Awards: the President’s Award.

The President’s Award was created to recognize medical societies that are making a positive difference through programs or campaigns that may fall outside the areas of the four established categories: advocacy, communications, education and membership.

Each year, the President’s Award will have a new theme focused on an issue he or she feels passionately about. For the inaugural award, President Jay Millson has selected “Health and Wellness Promotion” as his theme.

Submissions for this year’s President’s Award can include workplace or community health and wellness programs or campaigns that have made a positive impact on participants while successfully increasing awareness of important health issues. Submissions may include programs similar to:

• An employee 5K run/walk
• A company weight loss competition or wellness fair
• A campaign to help employees quit smoking
• A community vegetable garden
