State Medical Society
HIE/ACO Meeting
January 18-19, 2010
Washington, DC
As was discussed at the most recent AAMSE State Medical Society CEO meeting and the follow-up HIT/HIE discussion group meeting during the AMA Interim in San Diego, there is a strong interest in jointly planning and pursuing the most feasible role for state medical societies in supporting physicians in health information exchange and ACO activities. A core team was established to plan the next steps and the outcome of this planning is a 1.5-day meeting to be held in Washington, D.C. in conjunction with eHealth Initiative's annual conference in January.
The goal of this meeting is to make high-level decisions on possible directions/strategies to pursue for state medical societies. To help our discussions, we have obtained confirmations of attendance from several outside advisors specializing in HIT, HIE and ACOs.
Issues:
- How are state medical societies working with their local eHealth/HIE entities?
- What role can or should state medical societies play in directing physicians to HIE entities?
- What training is being offered to physicians by state medical societies?
- How can state medical societies work together to share information and resources and have additional support for their membership?
- How HIE and HIT tie into ACOs?
- How societies look at the legal issues tied to HIE for themselves as organizations and their respective members?
