Overview
Why is successful change hard? According to Glenn Tecker, author of “The Will to Govern Well,” the barriers more often have to do with the willingness of individuals and not in knowing what needs to be done. The will to govern well will allow for society’s leaders to lead into the future. How willing are we to accept the inevitability of the changes associated with Health Care Reform, for example? Regardless of the outcome of HCR, we, as medical society executives find ourselves amidst the implementation of major changes in our health care system. We are confronted with many of the obstacles which require true leadership to successfully navigate—uncertainty, differing opinions and potentially divided memberships.
As we strive to be leaders, this is an opportunity like no other. On behalf of the AAMSE Board of Directors and the Annual Conference Program Committee, we invite you to join us in Seattle on July 21-24 for the 2010 Annual Conference, Peaks and Perks of Change.
The 2010 AAMSE Annual Conference will feature a variety of sessions with nationally recognized and engaging speakers to address a wide range of issues faced by medical society professionals, ranging from health policy to communications, from marketing to legal issues. Each of the facets of medical societies—whether they be at the national, specialty, state or county level—will be faced with new challenges in 2010 and beyond. This conference will highlight the positives of change and prepare you to succeed.
Sessions will address the most current topics such as social media and the changing CME/MOC landscape, and will delve into controversial but timely issues such as the role of non-physicians in professional medical societies. Speakers will include leadership and change management expert Glenn Tecker; association marketing and membership guru Sheri Jacobs, CAE; and Leslie Fox, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA, founder and CEO of Care Communications, Inc.
Seattle is a beautiful city, and there are a range of activities to tempt any visitor, from the beautiful waterfront and outdoors activities to theater, music and dance. Visit one of the region’s 35 wineries, or sample one of the true perks of a conference held in the world’s coffee capital! The conference schedule will allow you time to enjoy the city as well as AAMSE’s educational offerings.
Whether this is your first AAMSE Annual Conference or your 20th, you will find the information and tools you need to thrive in your leadership role and contribute to the success of your organization. We look forward to seeing you at the 2010 Annual Conference in Seattle.
